Bodhi's Farm

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Bodhi’s farm Happy Chicken are farmed naturally and organically using probiotics and herbs without using chemicals such as antibiotics or animal growth hormone drugs for fattening.

We produce our own chicken feeds.

We give organic non-GMO corn and rice bran for a healthy source of carbohydrates. For protein we use fish and bone meals and leucaena flowers.

Maggot meal supplemented with live maggots is also used as a good alternative to fish meal in our organic poultry production.

From the age of two weeks old, we provide our chickens with a jamu/herbal drink mix such as ginger, tumeric, and curcuma, as well as giving probiotic lactobacillus bacteria to help strengthen their gut system, therefore increasing their immune system, avoid the need for us to give antibiotics to our poultry.

We produce and farm our own maggots from organic waste produce we collect from local houses, hotels and restaurants, taking what would otherwise be landfill and putting it to good use.

Happy Chicken probiotic chickens are farmed for 7-9 weeks.

Happy Kampung chickens are farmed for 14-16 weeks.

Happy Chicken Probiotic chickens live in a large barn, specifically designed so they have room to roam around and ample ventilation.

The size of the barn we use to house our chickens is intentionally twice as large as you would find other conventional chicken barns that house the same quantity of chicken.

Happy Kampung Chicken are free-range and pasteur raised.

They live outdoors in a large, fenced enclosure where they are able to forage by scratching and pecking at the ground, eating insects, worms, grains, and grass from the soil and harvesting seeds.

They live as nature intended them to.

The main difference is the breed.

Happy Chicken Probiotic chickens are broiler chickens.

They are chickens primarily raised for their meat.  Broiler chickens have been selectively developed to possess certain desirable characteristics, such as the ability to build larger breast muscles for maximum meat yield.

Chicken broilers descended from the Indian Subcontinent jungle fowl. Cornish genes for fleshing and conformation are blended with genes of White Plymouth Rock for its rapid growth and white feathers.

Happy Kampung Chicken

Ayam Kampung is the chicken breed from Indonesia and Malaysia. The name means simply “free-range chicken” or literally “village chicken”.

In Indonesia, the term ayam kampung refer to indigenous chickens that are raised using traditional free range production techniques by almost every household in the village

They are a slow-growing breed of chicken, and hence is comparison to broiler chickens are low productivity.

Both its physical characteristics and its colouring are highly variable. Three principal colour types are recognised. The commonest is the black/red variety, in which the cocks are mainly green/black with glossy red/brown back, neck hackles and saddle feathers.

Other varieties are the red type and the naked-neck type.

*Both types of our chicken breeds raised naturally without using chemicals, antibiotics, or animal growth hormone drugs for fattening.

At Bodhi’s Farm, our chickens are raised thoughtfully on land that we care for.

Our chickens have large areas in which to move and roam around.

We raise our chicken organically, using nature’s pace and avoiding additional hormones for fattening.

We plant medicinal plants around the farm to ensure their maximum health.

Our chickens are robust and active, healthy and better cared for.

We follow specific government guidelines and procedures to process our chickens in a humane way.

We believe our chickens are happier and healthier because of the attention we take in caring for the land, producing the feed, and the environment and conditions we raise our chickens under.

All our chickens are handled and processed in hygienic facilities that are government certified and that exceed government mandated guidelines.

Once processed our chickens are immediately frozen using a fast blast freezing process, and air-tight vacuum packed to ensure they are fresh, with no chance of bacterial contamination,

Lastly, we store our frozen chickens in clean and hygienic conditions which are certified by the government for frozen food
